Where Do I Get Slipcovers Made?

Sunday, February 22nd, 2009

That is a question I am frequently asked. Slip covers have come back into vogue in a big way, but these days, where do you find those people with nimble fingers who know how to do this work? Four Season Slip Covers - the name of this company says it all - they specialize in making slip covers.
If you are thinking of doing this, now is a good moment as it is the quiet season. Once we start seeing Spring, things get very very busy. You have to decide what kind of fabric you want to change to. This gentleman can show you samples or you can head to St. Hubert St. and enjoy trolling the fabric stores. An armchair takes about 5 - 6 yds. of fabric, a 2-seat loveseat needs 10 - 12 yds., 3-seat sofa 13 yds. Dining room chairs take 2 1/2 yds. and can have pleats, bows, etc. They have done furniture for TV shows, and shop-at-home is available.

Wine for Sale

Saturday, February 21st, 2009

This weekend, the SAQ is offering $10 off if you purchase 6 bottles of wine or spirits worth $10 or more (after all other rebates). Excluded are 3L formats, coolers, beers and gift packages. If you order through their private ordering service, you can’t take advantage of it either. And finally (and I find this so unfair), you cannot use your SAQ gift cards, wine cards, or Les Connaisseurs gift vouchers.

Friday, February 20th, 2009

Those of you that love (or will learn to love) Rubans, Boutons… will be happy to find out that it is not gone (was on  St-Denis) but has simply moved into a new home. It’s an artsy store run by a button enthusiast with an endless display of buttons including horn, leather, mother-of-pearl and glass and in a rainbow of colors and patterns, even antique ones. Ribbons in 1,000 styles can be from France and Asia, have wired edges to make fancy packaging bows, hair ribbons, gown ribbons and ornate decorating ones. Button lovers may want to join the button club or buy button jewelry. To celebrate their new home, they are having a welcome party next week. The owner and his mate are also part time comedians and have a little stage in their new shop. Don’t be surprised if there’s a show that night.
